meet the teacher day at pre-school

On Tuesday Aliyah got to meet her teacher in a pre-school setting. Lucky (and convenient) for us, where Aliyah goes to school is just down the street a few houses. So, she has been there before to play with friends, but this time she got to see how pre-school was going to work.

I was just watching her as she was being taken to all the different stations and I realized she's not my baby girl anymore. She's growing up and starting school and everything. It makes me sad, but happy at the same time. She's learning and going through new experiences, and I'm so excited for her.

School starts the day after Labor Day for this princess, so we'll see how it goes then. For now she is constantly talking about how she just wants to go to pre-school and paint. Why do they want to grow up so fast?

Summit County Fair and other events up north

2 weeks ago we went up to Coalville to the Summit County Fair. It's been a tradition since we've been married and now that the kids are getting older they can now take part in the fun.

We went up on Wednesday and decided it would be fun to take the kids to 7 Peaks in Provo.

The kids were super excited

Jace was, of course, in work mode. :( But we did manage to pull him away for all the fun stuff that they wouldn't let me do...like the tube rides.

This was the first thing they decided to go on. (The light blue slide) I got to wait at the bottom. :(

Now we're in the wave pool.
woops...just noticed the nice boob shot I got of that lady behind Xander. That's lovely.

Climbing the stairs to Tukes Peak. The kids could go on this slide all by themselves. Aliyah went 5 or 6 times.

We stayed at 7 peaks for about 4 hours. The kids had a BLAST and didn't want to leave. They finally opened the kiddie pool area and Aliyah wouldn't leave. We had to pry them away, but I'm so glad they had fun.

Later that night we were in Coalville. The reason for coming up on Wednesday. The MAIN event...Xander was going to ride the sheep in the LITTLE BUCK-A-ROO!

Here he is with cousin Steele.

Aliyah thought she wanted to ride the sheep, until she saw all the other kids going first who fell off and left balling. She was done after she saw that.

Xander gettin' his game face on in Grandpa's hat.

So, here's how it went down: Jace missed the deadline to sign Xander up for the Muttin Busting. So, technically, he couldn't do it. However, one of Jace's friends brother's has 2 kids, one of which did NOT want to ride. So, Xander got to take his spot at the last minute. Of course, he was in the last group, so there was no one else out there, but Xander.

I am SO mad at myself for forgetting the video camera, but Xander looked so cute when Jace put him on the sheep he grabbed hold with all his might. (We had been prepping him about how the sheep was going to run and he had to hold on with his legs and grab his fleece and just hold tight.) Well, he just nestled his head right into the sheep and he was squeezing with his legs, but somehow the 'hold on tight to the fleece' thing just slipped his mind. Jace said as soon as he let go of the sheep he knew Xander didn't have a good grip.

Trying to fix his grip, but he wasn't budging.

And they're off!
As you can see, the sheep jumped. I didn't realize that sheep liked to do that, and therefore had never prepped him on what to do if the sheep jumped.
He fell off after that. He wasn't holding up high enough on the neck to sustain a blow like that.

Here is where there should be a picture of Xander laying on his back in the dirt kicking his legs and screaming. It was really quite funny because after he landed he just kind of layed there with a "what just happened" look on his face. Then he decided he was going to be upset about it. So mad I missed that picture. It really was funny.

But Dad came to the rescue.

And he's so distraught

But for all his effort he got 2 suckers (which he generously shared with Aliyah) AND a Little Buck-a-roo first place ribbon. :)
He's not so thrilled.

But then he decided he was ok and that next time he would hold on tighter.

Here's Aliyah, so glad she didn't ride because she got a sucker anyway. :)

Aliyah, Kira, and Kambree watchin' some older kids chase cows.

Thursday the kids got to hang out with their cousins, Kira and Kambree almost all day. Jen and Jalee had to go into Salt Lake to get all the meat and whatnot for their booth. The kids had an absolute blast. It was so good to see them getting along with their cousins. I don't know if they played so well because they never see each other, or because they genuinely like to be around each other. Ether way, it was great.

So, later on we went to the fairgrounds.

On the way:
Xander: Mom, Am I going to ride the sheep? I'm gonna hold on so tight.
Me: No, buddy. you already rode the sheep yesterday.
Xander: Well what am I gonna ride then?

You can see it really didn't effect him at all. I don't know what all the drama was about when he fell.

We hung out at Jen's booth for a bit, tried to see Jaxon in his bow-hunting competition (don't know if that's what it's called, but that's what I'm calling it.) It took WAY too long, so we left. He ended up taking first place. (Way to go!)

The kids were antsy, so we took them on a "roller coaster." At first, it was just Xander. Aliyah didn't want to go which I didn't understand. She LOVED the roller coaster in Disneyland. (Granted, this is in NO WAY even close to Disneyland...but to a 3 year old I think it's pretty much the same.) But then, the guy said that Jace could ride too, so they all 3 got on.

I love how Jace's legs are up to his chest. Looks really cozy.

But the kids loved it! And that's all that matters.

Friday morning Jace had an appointment with his mom, who's a PA. He had a fatty tumor on his arm that needed to come out. So, here is our happy patient. :) (This was also right before Jeanette cut into his arm and he told me he needed to hold my hand. What is it with boys and pain...?)

The kids were really concerned about Jace. Xander was freaking out about the blood (he takes after his father) and Aliyah thought he was really hurting and was scared for him. She kept her ears covered (I don't think she understood to cover her eyes...not the ears.) Anyway, I banished them to the front to play with the toys.

I'll spare you all the awesome pics and just show you the hole:

the fatty tumor:

all done...just need stitches

And this was him in the car 2 seconds after it was done. He was going to pass out, so we had to go get him a drink at the store. I know...seriously.

Later that night we went to the rodeo. The kids LOVED it. They watched almost everything. Although the cowboys didn't do so hot. I'd say night 1 went to the animals. But the bulls were awesome and Aliyah seemed to like the buckin' broncos. And of course the fireworks after. Those are always great.

Saturday was Parade Day:

The kids were all ready with their bags for the candy

With Matagi...waiting for sugar.

With Uncle Jaxon

After a brief intermission of playing at Grandma and Grandpa's we headed back to the fair. It was such a hot day...I felt like I was in St. George. Not ideal. But the kids had fun running around with their cousins. In fact, they all decided to get their faces painted.

Aliyah decided on a butterfly princess face (she added the princess part):

Xander, of course, wanted to be SPIDERMAN!

Cousin Kira got a tiger:

Cousins Brynn and Steele...tiger and Batman:

And somehow I missed Bryce, he was a cheetah and Kambree didn't want her face painted.

Anyhow, about 20 minutes after the face got painted Spiderman was worn out from saving the world and fell asleep sitting up in a chair next to me. Jace took him to Grandpa so he could be a bit more comfy.
Even Superheroes need their naps. :)

We then went to visit my parents for the rest of the day and finished out the weekend there.

We had a great time and look forward to going up the fair again next year when Xander will hold on to the sheep tighter. :)
